Membership
Lake Wisconsin Church is full of people who praise, worship, learn and help teach God’s Word. This church has a special place in the hearts of many people who attend and worship here. There are three groups that make up the Lake Wisconsin church family: visitors, regular attenders and members. All are integral to our church community.
The difference between regular attenders and members can be summed up in one word: commitment. It’s a bit like couples who just date, and those who get married. Becoming a Christian means committing oneself to Christ and becoming a member means committing oneself to other Christians; working together to accomplish the mission of Lake Wisconsin.
“Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.”
1 Corinthians 12:27
The Membership Process
The membership process is designed to be a personally enriching step in one’s ongoing walk with Christ. If you have been attending Lake Wisconsin, have placed your faith in Christ, and have begun to get connected with our ministries (please refer to the back of this brochure for a list of ’Our Church Volunteer Ministries’) in order to grow and serve, you might be ready to consider a commitment of membership.
Attend “Discover Lake Wisconsin”
Discover Lake Wisconsin” is an 8 hour class offered two times per year, once in the fall it is offered as a 5 week class on Sunday nights and in the Spring it is offered as a one-time, all-day Saturday class. It includes an introduction to Lake Wisconsin Church, where you will learn the answers to:
- What does the word ‘Evangelical’ mean?
- How is this church different from others?
- What makes this church special?
- Why do we do, what we do, they way we do it?
It gives you a chance to meet with Pastor Brian, hear his heart and learn more about Lake Wisconsin Church. Watch the bulletin to find out when the next class will be offered or call the church office at 592-3091 for more information. Childcare can be provided during these membership classes.
During this membership class you will be in a friendly, relaxed setting with a group of 8-10 people. You will study the Scripture as it relates to the characteristics of a growing disciple of Jesus Christ and learn about the unique beliefs and doctrines of the Evangelical Free Church. Please don’t worry about ‘not knowing enough’, if you are a new believer of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. You are following in the foot steps of many new believers by simply joining our church. We offer many avenues that will help you grow in your faith.
At “Discover Lake Wisconsin” you will receive a membership packet with all your materials. In this packet you will find a membership application and a ministry opportunities sheet. Complete and return these to the church office when you are ready to pursue the membership process.
The Affirmation Interview
After you have completed the membership class and have turned in your ‘Application For Membership’ along with your ‘Ministry Opportunities’ form, a date will be set for you to be interviewed by an Elder. This is an opportunity for you to share your story of how you came to faith in Christ. The purpose of the interview is to affirm your commitment to Christ, to Lake Wisconsin Church, to the process of spiritual growth and to answer any questions you might have about Lake Wisconsin.
New Member Recognition
Membership at Lake Wisconsin Church becomes official when during our Sunday morning services you are invited to the platform, introduced by Pastor Brian and officially recognized as new members by our congregation.
Be Assured…
As a result of your commitment to Christ and your other church family members, please be assured that this church will also ‘hold a special place in your heart’ as you attend and worship here.
“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching”.
Hebrews 10:24-25
